Built to learn Latin,
not to learn about you.

Verbum provides dictionary and grammar information with minimal data collection. It has no advertising, advertising identifier, or cross-app tracking.

Effective

Dictionary lookups

When you choose to look up a word, Verbum sends that word and the selected translation direction to latin.30twelve.org. The service processes the word to return dictionary and morphology information. Search words are not retained in application logs, proxy logs, recent-search feeds, or analytics.

Sentence parsing sends the sentence you explicitly submit to the same service. It is processed to return the requested analysis and is not retained.

Passage Scan

Passage Scan uses Apple Vision text recognition on your device. Verbum does not upload the photograph or complete recognized passage. Only a word that you explicitly tap is sent for dictionary analysis.

Camera and photo-library access are requested only when you use Passage Scan. Verbum does not record audio.

Product analytics

Verbum sends a small set of first-party product events so the developer can understand whether lookup, scanning, purchasing, and restoration work correctly. An event may include:

  • A random installation identifier generated by the app
  • App and build version
  • Feature entry point and success or error outcome
  • Coarse duration and count ranges
  • The Verbum Pro product identifier and purchase outcome

Events never contain searched words, sentences, recognized text, photographs, definitions, clipboard text, advertising identifiers, email addresses, or precise device models.

The server stores an irreversible keyed hash of the installation identifier, not the identifier itself. Individual event rows are deleted after 90 days. Anonymous daily totals may be retained longer.

Purchases

Verbum Pro is a non-consumable purchase handled by Apple through StoreKit. Apple processes payment information. Verbum checks StoreKit purchase history to unlock the feature and does not receive your full payment-card information.

Data stored on your device

Your theme choice, search history, flashcards, free-scan usage, and an offline entitlement cache are stored on your device. Verbum also keeps up to 20 recent successful lookup results on your device for up to seven days so repeated searches can load faster. This result cache expires automatically and is never sent to product analytics.

Search history and flashcards can be cleared in Verbum. Free-scan usage and the installation identifier use Keychain-backed secure storage.

Sharing and retention

Verbum does not sell data or share data for advertising. Data is disclosed only when required by law or when necessary for infrastructure providers to operate the Verbum dictionary service.

Changes and contact

This policy may change as Verbum changes. Material updates will appear here with a new effective date.
